Are you an experienced canyoner interested in learning skills to lead trips? This might be for you!
We're organising a canyoning skills weekend with an instructor in the Blue Mountains. We'll cover things like building anchors, belays and rescues, group management and general best-practice canyoning advice from guides themselves.
Sign up to submit an Expression of Interest. Note you are not guarranteed a spot on the trip - you will be advised if you're selected. Unfortunately, space is incredibly limited (max 5 people). However, if you are interested in leading trips you're encouraged to sign up as we'll organise some skills sessions afterwards to share what we learn.
This course is designed to equip canyoning trip leaders to confidently lead and manage their group. It has assumed knowledge and is most effective when cementing existing knowledge/skills. It is not for beginners.
To join you must:
- have prior experience canyoning (minimum 5 trips)
- be a self-sufficient canyoner (can set up anchors, abseil and clean anchors - knowledge of rescues would be ideal, but not essential)
- ideally have led or co-led a canyon before
- be willing to run at least 3 Club trips after the course
If I don't know you please provide some details on your experience in your sign up, or reach out to me. If you only answer 'yes' I can't assess your fit.
The Club is generously supporting participants to join this course. The total cost is ~$500pp (course) + petrol/food etc. You will have to pay upfront and reimbursements (up to $400pp) will be paid after you've led 3 club trips.
We're hoping to do the course before December so there is plenty of time left in the season to run canyoning trips. We have a tentative date from the guides for 29-30 November (pending participant availability). This is flexible, but so we don't miss our window I'll aim to select participants and lock in a date by 19th October.
