If you've always wanted to try kayaking, come along to this!
We will meet at ANU boatshed at 6pm. The location is here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/Sr4s6aDgbBwaodGC6. We will carry the kayaks to the jetty, and do a short safety briefing, covering:
- How to enter a sit-in kayak
- Basic paddle strokes and using pedals
- How to share the lake with other users (rowers, boats etc).
We will then paddle for approximately 1 hour, and return to packup the gear. The entire session should be completed by 8pm
No experience is necessary, but to attend this, you must be able to swim.
ANUMC provide the kayaks, PFDs (lifejacket, which must be worn) and paddles. Please bring along:
- Water;
- sun protection (sunscreen, hat etc);
- Clothing you can get wet in;
- Some people choose to bring a waterproof/windproof jacket to keep themselves warm and dry.
If you have to cancel, please email Jay at u6997744@anu.edu.au so that we can offer your slot to people on the waitlist. If you are running late on the day, we may need to leave without you. If the event is cancelled due to high winds or rain, we will seek to reschedule. ANUMC hold lake kayaking events for members throughout the year, so if you miss out on this event, there will be plenty of future opportunities.
