This is a beginner‑friendly canyoning in the Blue Mountains, perfect if you're new to canyoning.
On Saturday, we'll descend Serendipity Canyon, a fun and accessible canyon with abseiling, swimming, and beautiful scenery.
We'll leave Friday evening (around 5–6pm) or early Saturday morning (5:30am) from ANU Sport to meet at Mt Wilson Fire Station (canyon start) by 9:30am.
For Sunday, you have a few options:
- Join Mahdi's hiking trip (separate trip post - keep an eye on the trip calendar)
- Head back to Canberra if you have your own transport
- Join a second canyon with Alannah's group if conditions allow and there are enough experienced leaders
This trip is weather‑dependent and plans may change at short notice.
Required gear (can be hired from the gear store):
- Canyoning harness and helmet
- Abseiling device (figure‑8, Pirana, Squirrel, etc.)
- Three prusiks (2 short, 1 long/foot)
- 2–3 spare carabiners
- Canyoning pack & dry bags
- Thermal top & spray jacket
- Wetsuit (minimum 3mm, 5mm recommended - it's cold!) and shorts to wear over wetsuit
- A sling or a PAS to extend your belay
- First aid kit if you got one (not mandatory as I'll bring one but nice to have more)
- Gloves for abseiling (even gardening gloves are ok)
- Whistle for communication in the canyon
- Lunch, snacks & water
- Camping gear if staying Saturday night
I'll create a Messenger chat closer to the trip for coordination and updates.
