Are you a skier or a snowboarder? Looking to head into the backcountry with the club this season?
Backcountry skiing is very different from resort skiing. If you’ve wondered what it’s like and are thinking about giving it a go, this information session is for you.
At ANUMC, we explore the outdoors year-round, and winter is no exception. Our trips take advantage of the high country’s snow-covered landscapes, offering a truly special way to experience the mountains away from the crowds.
Many trips to the backcountry are day trips, but we also have snow camping trips. Camping in the snow is a unique experience and the effort is worth the reward.
If you love outdoor activities like bushwalking, canyoning, or climbing, come learn how to keep exploring in winter:
- Find out when and where we ski, from June to as late as November.
- Learn how we stay safe in risky environments.
- If you’re new to skiing, we’ll cover what you need to be ready for the backcountry. For complete beginners, some time practising in the resort is essential.
- For experienced skiers - those who can confidently ski blue runs in the resort - we'll connect you with like-minded club members who are keen to get into the backcountry.
- Check out different types of gear.
The club has a good range of skiing and other equipment available for hire, meaning that you can get involved without needing to buy expensive gear:
- Alpine touring skis and boots
- New splitboards!
- Cross country skis and boots
- Telemark skis and boots - so you can try this dying but truly excellent art
- Snowshoes.
This info session is open to everyone—no club membership required to attend. However, you’ll need to be a member to join trips. If you’re interested and a club member, please sign up so we have an idea of numbers.
If you are interested in skiing this season but you are not on the ANUMC Skiers Whatsapp group, please send me an email and I will send you a link to join. This will mean you're more likely to hear about ski trips that get organised at late notice this season.
