Mount Bimberi is usually considered as the highest point in ACT, although Peter has told me that the exact summit is actually located out of ACT. Anyway, it’s within my to-walk list and I want to do it this Reconciliation Day long weekend.
Inspired by a friend, I decided to do it from Orroral Valley, get to Cotter Flat, then to Murrays Gap, and then to Bimberi Peak, Mount Gingera, and in the end to Corin dam and finish the whole walk. The whole walk would likely to be more than 60km, so I would only take really fit people this time.
This walk would require a quite long car shuffle so plan is to leave at Friday evening, leave one car at the Corin Dam carpark, and everyone jump to the other car to camp at Orroral Campground. Saturday we wake up early and drive to the beginning of the walk and camp at Murrays Gap. Sunday would be the hardest day cause I want to push hard to get us to somewhere near Mount Gingera - I've been there during snow time and there seemed to be no proper place to camp, so ideally we should make it to Pryor's hut and camp there. This would leave us an easy Monday - only about 10km downhill to the carpark and car shuffle and then back home. Plan would change once I get some more details of the walk.
This walk is going to be challenging as 1. you need to walk more than 20k per day averagely with a heavy pack; 2. you need to bushbashing via the ridge from Bimberi peak to get to the fire trail to Mount Gingera; 3. you would potentially camp on some uncomfortable ground for the first and second night - if we didn't make it to Pryor's hut. Consequently, this is a very serious trip which is suitable for super fit and experienced bushwalkers only.
