This short bushwalk explores the 1300m high twin peaks south-east of Gibraltar Falls informally known (by Sak) as Slipditch. The twin peaks are clearly visible from southern Canberra, being at the forefront of the numerous peaks and ridges which mark the edge of Namadgi National Park. There are good views from the summit towards Canberra and back up the Gibraltar Valley towards Namadgi. The walk commences at Gibraltar Falls (less than an hour's drive from the ANU) with a strenuous 330m ascent over 1.2km through a mix of light to medium scrub and some easy rock scrambling. This is followed by 2km of walking along a broad forested ridge with various rocky outcrops that offer more views. We then have a 2-3km downhill return walk along firetrails and mountain bike tracks back to Gibraltar Falls and an optional refreshing dip in the rock pools above the falls. This makes for about 7km of walking, half of it off-track, plus about 400m of ascent, all of which should be comfortably possibly in about 4 hours of walking. No pre-trip. The trip leader will provide more details via email/telephone on Friday prior to the trip.
