Archived trip from old website run by Richard Salmons
(** Now running a waiting list, except for trip leaders and people who have done lessons and have contacted me to inquire about space on this trip.)
Taking advantage of the mid-semester break - an overnight snow-camping trip in the Thredbo area!
The outline is: drive to Thredbo ski village; ride the chairlift up to the top ($30); ski about one hour at an easy pace with packs away from the ski resort; set up camp and ski with day packs in the area, before spending Saturday night at our snow-camp. On Sunday, we'll do some more skiing before returning and packing up camp, collecting packs and skiing back to the ski resort. You can then either ski down the "Supertrail" (Blue ski run, if suitable to your skills), or ride the chairlift back down.
The skiing level is aimed at beginners who've done the ski lessons (this year or previous years), and is suitable for your first time skiing with an overnight pack. We also assume it's your first time snow-camping, so you will receive all the guidance you need for this.
Aside from the beginners' skiing, this trip will be close to the "Twin Valleys" area east of Thredbo, which I would like to generally explore. While beginners will be skiing around (not in) these steep valleys, they would be great for intermediate/advanced skiers so if you're in that category, you could join this trip and check out the area separately.
Signups will open once the ski lessons are out of the way. Priority for beginners will go to people who've done ski lessons with the club, so your registration is an expression of interest only, and your name will go on an interest list (disregard any indications on this site that there are "unlimited" places available). If you did not do ski lessons with the club, you should detail your skiing experience so we have a better guide to your skill level. We will notify you closer to the date if you have a place on the trip.
