Jimbo's Ultra-Rad Coast Safari (JURCS) is an ANUMC tradition, started by notorious madcap president "Jimbo The Unwashed", and dates all the way back to 2016. Legend has it that Jimbo thought of the trip whilst regaining consciousness after an Ursies hazing ritual. Desperate to wash himself - but not daring to go near Sullivans Creek - he consulted an atlas and, unable to get pinch-to-zoom to work, concluded that the Tasman Sea was the nearest clean body of water. Jimbo's Ultra-Rad Coast Safari was thus born and has carried on ever since.
ANUMC's first big weekend of 2016 will be the semi-annual 'Coast Weekend'. On the last few days of February, we'll head down to the NSW coast while the weather is still hot for a weekend in and around the sea. We will be leaving ANU on Friday afternoon and return Sunday evening. In between, good times will ensue, friends will be made and relationships will be formed (maybe).
Activities will include kayaking (sea, surf and flat water), bushwalking and mountain biking.
Each activity over the weekend will be run by a designated trip leader and will be posted as its own trip on the website calendar. All participants will need to sign up to this trip (so we can arrange the logistics) and will also need to sign up to a trip on both days. This trip is only open to those who are experienced in the activities that the leaders will be running over the two days. Anyone that is interested in leading a trip on this weekend (we want you!), please contact me.
You will need to arrange your own gear hire for each day, and bring your car camping equipment and food as well. Depending on the campsite water may be required. The cost of the trip will cover park entry fees, camping fees and the driver reimbursement for fuel and wear and tear on the car. Pre-trip will be on the Tuesday night at 6.45pm before the trip (23rd of February) in the gear store. If you want to hire gear on the Tuesday night, you must be at the gear store BEFORE 6:30pm.
Please note: Payment will be required at the pre-trip. Arrangements will be finalised on Thursday night. If you pull out of the trip after that time, you will forfeit your trip fee.
Please note that all participants MUST have an emergency contact to attend the weekend, so please update your account details. Please also add your car details so I can start to work out if we have enough transport. Also, if there is someone who you want to be travelling with you, please include their names in the 'Comments' section.
Finally, the club will only be organising transport for people leaving on Friday night and returning on Sunday. If you are not able to travel at these times, you may sign up, but it will be up to you to work out transport with others at the pre-trip. Please indicate if you are not travelling at these times in the comments section, so I know not to include you in the main group.
The camping ground will be Bournda National Park.
Sign ups have now opened. Signing up does not guarantee a place; places depends on availability of cars and trip leaders. Activities will be posted on the trip calendar soon. Please make sure to include vehicle details in the trip sign up (even if you think you have already entered them on your account). Please include: 1) if you have a car, or not; 2) how many people you can take; 3) if you have roof racks or bike racks; 4) how many bikes you can take.
Cars will drive down to Hobart Beach campsite on Friday night and return on Sunday afternoon. While there, people will participate in a number of hiking, kayaking and mountain biking trips posted on the calendar.
