Archived trip from old website run by Steven Hare
Are you new to Canberra and want to know where the best walking trails are? Or maybe you've decided that you're going to give bushwalking a go in 2016. Or maybe you just want to meet some cool outdoorsy types! Whatever the reason, come along to our Come and Try Session at ANU.
We'll meet at the BBQs on the north end of Fellows Oval near the BBQs (where the BBQ lunch will be) at 1pm and go for a moderate walk over to and up Black Mountain. Total Ascent of approximately 250m on some moderately steep but well maintained walking tracks. Suitable for beginners who don't mind a bit of uphill walking. If time permits and people are keen we may even do a lap of the track about 3/4s of the way to the summit. Along the way we can talk all things bushwalking - great walks near Canberra, other areas to visit, gear, trip planning etc. We'll then head back to ANU likely arriving around 3pm!
What to bring:
- Yourself, comfortable clothes to walk in for about 2 hours, comfy shoes (sneakers are fine for this walk), watch the weather and dress accordingly (rain jacket if rain is forecast, unless torrential we will go on regardless) a 1L water bottle full of water and some enthusiasm! If sunny remember a sunhat and some sunscreen.
Note: There will be a slightly harder come and try walk in the afternoon for those that don't mind steeper tracks and sweating it out up hills!
Up Black Mountain via summit walking track off Firth Road, possible extension around the loop track on the way down, back down to ANU via similar route.
