We will have a trip leader training night, focussed around providing and sharing information for confident outdoor climbers to start leading club trips, or lead more committing trips. This event is for you if you have some experience climbing outdoors and
- you've gone outdoors with the club or with mates and want to start running trips (possibly with help)
- you've led some club trips and are interested in running a beginner trip, and/or
- you want more club trips to happen!
The evening will be mostly (if not all) theory and discussion. We'll be in the gear store from 6:30pm and I'll order in pizza. The aim is to build a group of people willing and able to safely run/co-run a variety of short sport climbing day or weekend trips. These can range in difficulty (for the trip leader), from organising logistics for self-sufficient climbers to full blown beginner instructional days.
Some topics I'm planning to cover are safety, practical/technical things to be aware of (e.g. checks, belaying, leading, cleaning), group management, safety, local crags, logistics, and safety. If there's anything in particular you'd like included let me know.
Experienced trip leaders are also very welcome to come along and share stories/perspectives/wisdom!
I'll cap the event so that it doesn't get too huge and everyone can benefit from the discussion, so signing up doesn't guarantee a spot. However there's scope for continuations or repeats of the training night if it proves popular. If I haven't climbed with you before please include a sentence or two with your outdoor climbing experience and/or what you hope to gain from the evening.
