The Australian Alps Walking Track (AAWT) is a long distance walk from Walhalla in Victoria to Tharwa in the ACT. It provides a challenge to bushwalkers who set out to traverse the spine of the Australian Alps for 659.6 km, including six separate park areas and 14 separate Indigenous tribal areas and a plane wreck (!). It is a awesome walk both in scale and in beauty. The AAWT goes through:
* Mt Victor
* Rumpff Saddle
* Mt Hotham
* Omeo Highway
* Benambra
* Dead Horse Gap
* Kiandra
I hope to attempt the AAWT from mid November to late December in 2017. The dates identified are indicative. I am looking for individuals to join me on "legs" of the track, because I am an extrovert and may go mad if I am left alone for too long. Like a dog.
Throughout the course of the year, I will be organising a number of trips in their own right which are beautiful but are also training trips for the AAWT. If you are interested in joining me for a leg of the actual AAWT, please sign up for at least one training trip beforehand so we know about each other a bit and can work out if we are suitable walking buddies.
Depending on what leg you want to do, you could be walking for a few days to a whole week before hitting an "out" to civilisation from a road. Mika will be doing food swaps for me weekly so he could possibly transport you in and out as well.
The difficulty is medium but this will change depending on how many days you want to walk, the leg you walk, and the weather conditions.
If you are interested, register your interest and tell me the following information:
- your walking experience, including overnight experience;
- what part of the track you would like to walk;
- how long you would like to walk for.
Looking forward to walking with you!
