The plan is to go snorkeling for a few hours at either Green Patch, Hole in the Wall beach or Murrays beach (or multiple spots if time allows and people are keen). The locations are all on the southern side of Jervis Bay in Booderee National Park and are accessed by short walks in from their respective parking areas.
You will need to bring:
- Face mask, snorkel and fins
- Sunscreen, hat and other sun-protective clothing (e.g. long sleeve shirt)
- Swimwear
- Towel
- Footwear that you don't mind getting wet
- Drinking water
- Snacks/food if you want something to eat while on the trip
In addition to suitable swimwear, a rash vest or light-weight wetsuit is recommended if you have one or can borrow one. This will help to protect you from the sun when in the water and to keep you warmer if the conditions are cool.
You will need to be able to swim and be confident that you can swim in the ocean without endangering yourself or others. We will be close to shore and the bay may provide protection from larger waves but the water could still be rough depending on the conditions at the time. You also should be familiar with the use of your snorkeling gear as there is no intention for this to be an instructional trip, although snorkeling itself is a relatively simple activity and every participant is encouraged to buddy up and watch out for one another both in and out of the water.
We will chose the beach or beaches where we intend to snorkel, inform the TURCS trip leader of our decision and drive to the chosen beach locales within Booderee National Park, departing from the TURCS campsite at 14:30.
If we decide on going to Green Patch we will park at the beach carpark then we will proceed as follows
- Find a suitable place to snorkel off the beach
- Swim/snorkel
- Walk back to the cars
- Drive back to the TURCS campsite, departing 17:00 or thereabouts
If we decide on going to Hole in the Wall beach we will park at the beach carpark then we will proceed as follows
- Park at Hole in the Wall beach carpark
- Walk along Hole in the Wall beach to the north eastern end (the "hole in the wall" at the seaward headland)
- Swim/Snorkel at the headland
- Walk back to the cars
If we decide on going to Murray's beach then we will park at the beach carpark then we will proceed as follows
- Find a suitable place to snorkel either on the beach or in the vicinity of the boat ramp
- Swim/snorkel
- Walk back to the cars
- Drive back to the TURCS campsite, departing 17:00 or thereabouts
