The plan is to take advantage of the good weather on Sunday to do a traverse of the Snowy Mountains from Guthega to Dead Horse Gap, taking in Mt Twynam and Australia's highest mainland peak on the way. The weather looks sunny but the snow conditions may be a bit icy until the snow melts a little.
To take part in this trip you will need to have a high level of fitness (we'll probably cover around 1500-2000 vertical metres and 30-35 kilometers. You’ll need to have skied back country before. If using club gear, you'll need to have had Seb's sign off before embarking on the trip. Please state your level of experience in the trip sign-up (signing up does not guarantee a spot because we’ll need to ensure a good beginner/experience ratio).
In terms of what to bring, please familiarise yourself with the list of suggested gear at http://anumc.org.au/activities/skiing
The intended plan is to drive to Jindabyne Saturday night and camp at Island Bend. We’ll leave very early on Sunday morning (around 6.30am) to give ourselves lots of time to traverse from Guthega to Dead Horse Gap (or Thredbo) taking in Twynam, Townsend (depending on how we’re going) and Kosciuszko. We’ll have PLB’s on us and will save the intended route to Strava beforehand.
