A group of intrepid ANUMCers will be travelling to New Zealand's South Island for a few weeks of Canyoning, Packrafting, and Hiking. We will be visiting lots of areas, including Arthurs Pass, Wanaka & Queenstown, and we may even go as far as Milford Sound and Abel Tasman NP in search of canyons, rivers, hikes and any other shenanigans that we can find.
The trip will be from mid-Jan to mid-Feb, with the exact dates somewhat flexible. We'll be locking in dates and flights once we get a core group of people together. We will be travelling in cars and camping with minimal facilities for the entire time, so this trip is for experienced outdoors people that are reliable and able to look after themselves.
The canyoning will be of a moderate to very advanced level, so you will need to be very comfortable and self-sufficient in Australian canyons. The packrafting will be mostly Grade 2, so you will ideally have a bit of whitewater experience. You will definitely need to have some paddling experience. There will be some training sessions and trips over summer to practice wet canyoning techniques and packrafting. You will also need a good sense of humour and need to be able to stay calm in case things get interesting or uncomfortable.
Sign ups are an expression of interest and do not guarantee you a place on the trip. You'll need to show that you have sufficient canyoning and paddling ability - and that you can put up with us for 2-4 weeks.
