The campsite for the MRE has been selected and it's just over the hill from Blue Lake! Since some of us are already hauling up ropes for ski-mountaineering practise, let's carry a little bit more gear and try to get in some ice-climbing too!
The plan is to do some top-rope ice-climbing at Blue Lake. We'll wake up early on Sunday morning, pop over to the ice crag, and get some climbing in before Seb needs the ropes back for his ski mountaineering trip. (Seb's trip is planned for later on on Sunday when the snow has softened. If we don't get enough climbing in on Sunday, people can do more on Monday, but will need to be self-sufficient as I may do something else.)
Gear: Everyone should have a harness, helmet, boots that are compatible with crampons (we'll test them out in the gear store on Thursday night), crampons, and at least 1x ice axe. Group gear (snow anchor gear, rope(s), belay devices, etc.) will then be shared out amongst participants to carry to the campsite and crag.
**Please note that I do not know what the current ice conditions are like at Blue Lake - so I can not guarantee the quality of the climbing. I will attempt to scope out the conditions on Saturday, so I can inform trip participants whether or not it is worth the trip going ahead on Sunday morning.
Wake up early on Sunday morning, head over to Blue Lake, set up top-rope climbs on the best ice we can find, climb until we've had enough, return back to camp before Seb's ski mountaineering trip begins, and then brag about the awesome morning we had.
