The Ultra-Rad Coast Safari (URCS) is an ANUMC tradition, started by notorious madcap president "Jimbo The Unwashed" (thus "JURCS"), and dates all the way back to 2016. Legend has it that Jimbo thought of the trip whilst regaining consciousness after an Ursies hazing ritual. Desperate to wash himself - but not daring to go near Sullivans Creek - he consulted an atlas and, unable to get pinch-to-zoom to work, concluded that the Tasman Sea was the nearest clean body of water. The Ultra-Rad Coast Safari was thus born and has carried on ever since - except in 2017 where near death and foul weather snatched the URCs away from all.
Nonetheless a weekend in March where the water is warm and the crowds are receding will hold the semi-annual 'Coast Weekend'. We will be leaving ANU on Friday afternoon and return Sunday evening. In between, good times will ensue, friends will be made and relationships will be formed (maybe).
Activities will probably include kayaking (sea and surf), bushwalking, mountain biking, rock climbing, surfing, walking across one of the whitest beaches in the world and snorkelling.
Each activity over the weekend will be run by a designated trip leader and will be posted as its own trip on the website calendar. All participants will need to sign up to this trip (so we can arrange the logistics) and will also need to sign up to a trip on both days. This trip is only open to those who are experienced in the activities that the leaders will be running over the two days.
Anyone that is interested in leading a trip on this weekend (we want you!), please contact me.
You will need to arrange your own gear hire for each day, and bring your car camping equipment and food as well. Depending on the campsite water may be required. The cost of the trip will cover park entry fees, camping fees and the driver reimbursement for fuel and wear and tear on the car. Pre-trip will be on the Tuesday night at 6.00pm before the trip (20th March) in the gear store. If you want to hire gear on the Tuesday night, you must be at the gear store BEFORE 6:30pm.
Please note: Payment will be required at the pre-trip. Arrangements will be finalised on Thursday night. If you pull out of the trip after that time, you will forfeit your trip fee.
Please note that all participants MUST have an emergency contact to attend the weekend, so please update your account details. Please also add your car details so I can start to work out if we have enough transport. Also, if there is someone who you want to be travelling with you, please include their names in the 'Comments' section.
Finally, the club will only be organising transport for people leaving on Friday night and returning on Sunday. If you are not able to travel at these times, you may sign up, but it will be up to you to work out transport with others at the pre-trip. Please indicate if you are not travelling at these times in the comments section, so I know not to include you in the main group.
The camping ground will likely be at Boodoree National Park - final site TBC depending on numbers and availability.
Drive cars on Friday to TBC campsite at Boodoree National Park - camp fro-sat-sun with day trips (see other trips).
