This trip is part of the BME. To attend, you need to also sign up for the main BME trip.
If you're a complete beginner looking to get into outdoor climbing, this is the trip for you!
We will be heading to the Dam cliffs, to do some climbing. I will set up topropes for you guys on super easy routes. I intend for this to be a relaxed trip with a chill vibe :)
Note that you will need to have a belay pass to come on this trip. No other experience is required, however I would appreciate it if you could please briefly outline your experience level when you sign up, just for my own reference. Please let me know if you are bringing your car to the BME when you sign up!! I don't have a car so this trip cannot go ahead unless one of you can drive!
Advanced climbers are welcome to sign up too! There are some harder routes in this area that you could try out! If some more experienced people sign up, I could potentially open the trip up for more beginners.
You will need:
-a helmet ( please check that it fits you before hiring!!)
- belay device with locking carabiner ( If you are a beginner, please hire a Megajul (the funky looking one with the green handle), or a Pilot (the one with the big black handle) NOT an ATC. The reason why is that the megajul is an auto-locking device whereas the ATC is not.)
-climbing shoes
-harness ( please check that it fits you before hiring!!)
-sun protection:hat, sunscreen etc
-Water (I recommend minimum 2L) and food for the day
-A backpack to carry everything in
-Comfortable approach shoes to walk to the crag in
- swimmers? There is an abandoned dam at this crag, so we could potentially go swimming there. There's also some deep water soloing at the Dam, but the routes do look quite hard and do keep in mind that you may hurt yourself if you fall off in an awkward position from high up!)
*** Note: you can hire climbing gear from our gear store (at ANU sport). Opening hours: 6-6:30 pm on tuesdays and thursdays.
Feel free to explore this link to get a sense of the climbing in this area:
We will leave the campsite in the morning, drive to the crag, climb, and come back to the campsite in time for dinner.
