Do you want to be a canyoning trip leader? Do you have what it takes?
Following the Blue Mountains Extravaganza, I’m looking at growing the canyoning experience within the club. My intent is to run a number of climbing wall roping sessions and field activities over the next 6 months to develop up-and-coming trip leaders in the skills necessary to lead beginner level or co-lead more complex canyons.
Only register your interest if you are willing to dedicate the effort developing these skills. Although not essential, please indicate your prior abseiling and canyoning experience.
Final places will be limited to 10 participants with preference given to members who have shown an interest in leading trips or have actively contributed to the club.
Rough topics that will be covered:
- Abseiling (single rope, double rope, self belay, figure 8 and ATC)
- Ascending (prussicking) and self-rescue
- Anchor and rope setup (man-made/natural features, recoverable/non-recoverable)
- Trip planning
- Rope rescue methods (lowerable abseil, Z-haul)
