In response to popular demand (the beginners snowshoe trip on 18 August is way over subscribed) I’ll be leading another beginners snowshoe walk the following weekend, this time from Perisher Valley to Porcupine Rocks. The initial route will be along the Rock Creek snowshoe track. Beginning in Perisher Village, the track follows Rock Creek through a treeless frost hollow, then loops through beautiful snow gum woodland to Porcupine Rocks and Mt Duncan. This route is easier than South Rams Head (much less elevation to be gained). It offers more time to take in the views down into the Thredbo Valley far below, explore the snow gums and snow-blanketed boulders, and experience the unique snowy winter wonderland of Kosciuszko National Park. The catch is we need to leave Canberra early and get to Perisher Valley before the carpark fills.
