Come and join Mika Kontiainen and myself on Christmas Day for an overnight bushwalk, camping on Mt Townsend on Christmas night, after a bountiful Christmas feast and waking up on Boxing Day with a spring in your step and none of the glug and remorseful gluttony. You get to eat all you want and then exercise it off on the hike! We aim to leave Wanniassa by 11:00am on Christmas Day and arrive at Dead Horse Gap carpark. From there we walk up the 9.5km up to South Ramshead and across to North Ramshead and then on to Mt Townsend where we will set up camp for drink, gluttony and merriment. Mt Townsend is one of the more mountainey peaks of the Australian Alps, in fact Strezlecki the minor polish aristocrat initially throught Townsend was the highest peak and may have termed it after the famous polish general Kosciuszko. It is the second highest but looks much more like a mountain then Kosi. Our campsite is amazing to say the least, with incredible views to the Alps. Imagine eating baked ham, pudding and sipping mulled wine with a view out to the alps, warm in your sleeping bag. Mika and I will continue on to walk on across the rolling grounds where we will do a "deluxe" version of the AAWT to Kiandra, the group can head back to the cars the route taken or take a roundabout route, depending on experience.
