An easy to moderate overnight bushwalk in the Gungartan region of Kosciuszko national park!
There is supposed to be a meteor shower saturday night/early sunday morning so we will have the chance to view this while out in the bush: how exciting!!!!
Total length of the walk should be 25-30 kms depending on which exact route we take :)
I'm running this as an introductory training hike for members who are interested in my upcoming trip to the Zanskar valley. I will prioritize spots on this trip to those who are seriously considering coming on my Zanskar trip. But there should be some room for other club members to come along as well! If you came on the previous walk to corang arch, note that this walk is going to be a bit harder than that one: we will be walking a slightly greater distance, and will be doing a bit more ascending. Some of this walk will also be off track.
Taya Fabijanic is acting as a mentor for me on this trip.
If I don't already know you, please write a brief description of your prior experience in bushwalking when you sign up. Also let me know if you have a car/can drive!
Leave anu sport at 7:30am Saturday morning. Drive to Guthega power station (2 hour and 40 min drive), start walking north along the aqueduct trail to Schlink Pass( approx 1800m). After this we will head off the trail to the summit of mount Gungartan(approx 2070m).If we feel good, we will push on a further 3kms east to tin hut but if we are tired we will camp near summit of mount Gungartan. We will end up walking 13-16 kms the first day depending on what exactly we decide. The next day we will return to the power station via disappointment ridge (off track!) . We will end up walking 13-15 ish kms on the second day. Total elevation gain is likely to be up to 900/1000 ish metres. When we get to the power station, we will drive back to Canberra. Intend to arrive back in Canberra by 9pm on Sunday.
