Leave Dead Horse Gap around 11.30am Saturday morning, walk to Cascade Hut, set up camp nearby. Spend the afternoon exploring - we can head along the AAWT toward Tin Mine Huts, return to spend the night at Cascade Hut. Sunday return to Dead Horse Gap along Cascade Hut trail.
This is a beautiful and relatively easy walk into the Pilot Wilderness to Cascade Hut. We follow a 10km section of the Australian Alps Walking Track, which has some spots with stunning views. The high point, Bob’s Ridge, offers a scenic lookout across the Murray River valley into Victoria. It should take less than three hours walking to reach the hut, so we can set up camp then explore the area.
We're running this as an introductory training hike for members who are interested in the upcoming trip to the Zanskar valley. I will prioritize spots on this trip to those who are seriously considering coming on my zanskar trip. But there should be some room for other club members to come along as well!
