There is nothing better than a day spent in the bush when you should be at work or at uni studying. Given the wonderful walking weather at the moment, I will be leading a day walk across the tops of the magnificent Tidbinbilla Range.
Start at ANU at 0730, we will drive to Mountain Creek carpark at Tidbinbilla and then start on the lyrebird trail before venturing off track onto a footpad for a 700m climb up to Tidbinbilla Mountain. From here we continue off track (there may be some vague footpads, there will likely be some scrub) on to Tidbinbilla Peak then Johns Peak before spitting out on the Camelback fire trail which will lead us back to the cars at Mountain Creek. Total distance 13-14km, 2/3s of this on footpads or off track and 900m of elevation gain. This is a reasonable distance and climb for a day so you need to moderate level of fitness to attend.
We will be aiming to be back at the cars late afternoon (4-5pm) and back to Canberra around 6pm.
You will need the normal daywalking equipment - enthusiastic beginners are welcome. Note the peak elevation is over 1600m, so a warm layer is essetial as is a rain jacket as it is possible we will get rained on next week.
For an idea of what the walk entails, see the notes here: http://www.johnevans.id.au/wp/31-july-2019-tidbinbilla-mountain-to-johns-peak-traverse/
