Join me on an evening stroll through this amazing conservation area in the north of Canberra. By going at night I hope we can spot some of the elusive native animals that call it home such as the Southern Boobook owl, Eastern Bettong and Eastern Quoll.
The walk will be very easy and slow paced.
There are 8 spots available on this walk. Ill drive one car and if someone can offer to drive the second that would be greatly appreciated.
Signing up to this walk is a commitment that you will attend. If you cant make it please cancel your registration so someone else can come along.
Please bring:
- Bright head torch or hand torch or both!
- 1l water
- Rain jacket
- Jumper incase it gets cold
We will depart from the Coffee Grounds Cafe at ANU at 7pm sharp. Please don't be late
COVID - Please do not sign up to or attend the walk if you have been in a COVID hotspot recently or you are feeling unwell.
Some info about Mulligans Flat.
Step back in time to see what Canberra was like before clearing and introduced predators took its unique woodland wildlife.
Enter the protective predator-proof fence of the sanctuary and watch Echidnas waddle, wildflowers bloom and rare marsupials hop.
Mulligans Flat is a sanctuary at the forefront of Australian wildlife conservation. Protecting the largest patch of Box Gum Grassy Woodlands in the world, they work by 'restoring nature, transforming thinking and inspiring action for conservation'.
Here locally extinct animals like the Eastern Bettong and Eastern Quoll have been reintroduced to Mulligans Flat, after being absent from mainland Australia for 100 years. It is the only place in Canberra where you can see these critters in the wild.
