The four walls of the gym closing in? Want to experience the freedom of lead climbing? Then this is the trip for you!!
The plan is to spend the day at Thompsons Point crag, practicing lead climbing and jumping on some classic Nowra sandstone sport routes!
Thompsons Point provides some of the best outdoor climbing in the region, all with the beautiful backdrop of the Nowra river and coastal bushland.
The guide for Thompsons Point can be found here: https://www.thecrag.com/en/climbing/australia/nowra/thompsons-point
Depending on time, skills covered over the day will include (but are not limited to):
- Learning outdoor sport leading essentials
- Assessing risk in Sport climbing
+ Any other areas of interest within the sphere of climbing!
This trip is aimed at people who have had a some experience outdoor climbing and are wanting to learn how to effectively and safely lead climb. This is not a beginner outdoor climbing trip! Skills such as belaying (using and ATC, MegaJul etc.) are all assumed knowledge.
List of essential gear:
- Helmet
- Harness (with gear loops)
- Chalk (optional)
- Climbing shoes
- Belay device + Carabiner
- Water + Lunch + Snacks
I will be providing more details on this list once numbers and participants are confirmed.
Interested? When you sign up please provide a short description of what experience you have outdoor climbing so I can get an idea of whether this trip would be right for you!
I am trying to not make the trip too large (so participants can get the most out of it) and would be great to get a balance of experienced sport climbers and new comers as well as making sure we have enough drivers, so please note that **signing up doesn’t guarantee a spot on the trip** for that reason.
