Come along and climb some high quality granite cracks with me! We'll head to Billy Billy; it's a bit of an adventure even getting out there, but well worthwhile, check it out here: https://www.thecrag.com/en/climbing/australia/gibraltar-peak-and-corin-road-crags/area/510681699. This trip will require some climbing experience and good fitness.
Skills:
To come on this trip you must be comfortable lead belaying at the very least, but most of the people on the trip will need to be self sufficient trad climbers. Some climbers less experienced with trad will be welcome if we have enough experienced participants.
You also need a good level of general fitness, the approach is an uphill bush-bash that takes an hour at a good pace.
Transport
We will meet at ANU sport (around 6:45) and be ready to leave at 7am. I have 4 spaces in my car. We will drive to Corin road and park for the walk in, get some climbing in before the worst of the heat and assess how much longer we want to stay, beginning the walk out by 6 pm at the latest.
Equipment
As personal gear you will need:
Hireable from gear store:
Helmet, harness, climbing shoes, belay device with locking carabiner.
Non-hireable:
Chalk bag (optional), sports tape for crack gloves (optional, recommended), PLENTY of water, lunch, sturdy shoes, hat, sunscreen.
The number of people who can come will also depend on the number of trad racks, so please bring gear if you have it.
On signing up please detail your relevant climbing experience, the gear you might bring and whether you can drive.
Walk from parking on Corin road (-35.50249, 148.91769) to Picnic area of Billy Billy (-35.505553, 148.897196) via the waypoints in the approach section of the Billy Billy page on The Crag. This is where we will regroup to leave at the end of our climbing day, no later than 6pm.
