Hello!!
Join me for a lovely bushwalking trip to the tinderries!! On this trip, we'll be walking to 'The Onion', a small peak of granite (1526 metres above sea level) close to tinderry peak. The views from this point should be absolutely amazing! The walk should be around 10 km long, with ~400m (just a rough eyeball calculation) of elevation gain. Here's the route we'll take:

The total length of the route marked here (going there and taking the same route back) is 8 kms, but expect to walk a couple of kms extra in case we make small navigational mistakes. Half of the route is on a fire trail and half is off track. Also expect a bit of little bit of scrambling to get to the top of the onion. I really have no idea how long this will take - it depends on our navigation skills and fitness. I personally think it won't take more than ~6 hrs and if we're too slow, we'll turn back early.
After our walk to the onion, we'll get back into the cars and visit another outcrop of VERY special granite at mt Wangrah, which is a 45 minute drive from round flat (it's a bit far I know but trust me the trip will be worth it!!). This granite is called a 'Rapakivi Granite' and it has a very unique texture and chemistry!! Read more up about Rapakivi granites here if you're curious!
Here's a link to the geological map of the area if you're curious to take a look at the geology of the region:
