Due to overwhelming demand for our most popular kayaking event of the year, we are opening up spots to paddle on Wednesday morning! Canberra Balloon Spectacular is always a highlight of the Canberra year. And what better way to see it than from a kayak! If you are lucky, you may witness the Canberra icon that is Skywhale. And the more recent addition - Skywhalepappa. These are glorious balloons and anyone who disagrees will be tossed into the lake.
Bring warm clothes that can get splashed and a water bottle. If you plan to bring a camera or phone, thats fine - but you must bring your own waterproof bag and think about how you will secure it to the kayak when you're paddling.
Meet at the ANU Boat shed at 6am sharp. The session (including carrying the boats back to the shed) will be completed by 9.
This is not a first-in-first-served trip. Participants will be selected to ensure a mix of new and experienced paddlers. If you sign up, you aren't guaranteed a spot. Selected paddlers will be confirmed on Tuesday afternoon. Spots are limited to 10 people.
This trip will be canceled if bad weather (rain or hectic winds) is predicted. Additionally, they make an announcement at 6:15 on weather the balloons are going to fly. If the weather is clear, we will kayak with or without the balloons. You still get a great view of them even if they don't fly.
Please add a comment to the registration telling me about your kayaking experience (beginners are welcome, it just helps me figure out how much experience we have in the group) and your swimming ability. If you don't put this in the comments, you will not be selected for this trip.
Kayak from the boat shed, along the side of the Museum and over towards old parliament house. return.
