‘Perhaps the greatest concentration of high quality, long routes to be found anywhere in Australia. Adventurous routes in a remote, beautiful setting.’

Join us for a (long) weekend of awesome trad climbing in Warrumbungle National Park in Northern New South Wales, about 6.5 hour drive from Canberra.
It is not a beginner friendly crag and all climbers will need to be self-sufficient with route-finding, self-rescue, comfortable with run-outs etc.
*Pre-requisite for climbers:
- Competent leading on trad gear – multi pitch trad experience essential (even better if it is all day long wander-y routes) and self-rescue skill highly beneficial. Huge bonus if you have access to and are familiar with the use of double ropes. Climbing grades not as critical as long as you are sensible with your choice of routes.
- Overnight hiking/camping experience – We will likely be staying in Balor Hut for the duration of the weekend which is ~1hr hike in from the car. All camping and climbing gear, food etc. will have to be carried in there so expect heavy packs. However there is likely tank water at the hut.
Itinerary: subjective to changes
Tuesday or Thursday 6pm: Likely a pre-trip meeting and gear hire if needed
Friday: Leaving Canberra early afternoon at latest to drive up to Warrumbungles then hike in to Balor Hut.
Saturday: Climbing all day
Sunday: More climbing or change it up for some hiking/exploring.
Sunday afternoon/Monday morning: Drive home.
**When signing up please indicate the following:
- Climbing experience – grades, style, self-rescue skill, use of double ropes etc. Be specific!
- Any overnight hiking experience
- Availability for the weekend, i.e. earliest time you can leave on Friday; and latest time you have to get home on Sunday/Monday.
- Car info (if available)
*If your skill level is close to the pre-requisite but you are not sure or if you think you can convince me - sign up anyway and we can perhaps have a look.
**Signing up is an indication of interest only and does not guarantee a spot.
Friday night: Drive up to Camp Pincham, then walk in 1.5hr to Balor Hut for camping.
Saturday: Climbing Cornerstone Rib or other routes in the area. Exact plan to be determined in pre-trip meeting.
Sunday: TBC - potential plan: Flight of the Phoenix, or Canyon Cliffs for single pitch climbing, or hiking. Exact plan to be determined in pre-trip meeting.
Sunday evening/Monday morning: Drive home.
