This trip is to give people a chance to practice skills necessary for participating in a canyon. We'll head to a local crag (maybe White Rocks or Kambah) to practice abseiling, prusiking, and essential knots. For those with more experience we might practice releasable systems, joining ropes, top belays, v lowers, and rescuing stuck abseilers.
I'm happy to take a few beginners but will need some more experienced participants first (self-sufficient at abseiling and preferably understand basic anchor principles). Please indicate your experience when you sign up.
There won't be a pre-trip meeting. I will hire some ropes and canyoning gear for the group. Feel free to bring your own gear if you have it.
The plan: We'll likely head out midday as the suggested crags have some afternoon shade. We will practice abseiling and rope skills, maybe swim if we're at Kambah. I plan to return by 7pm, if not earlier.
Equipment:
I will hire some group gear, including the following for beginners (but please bring your own if you have it):
- Harness with personal anchor system/safety
- Helmet
- Descending device (e.g. ATC or figure 8)
- Waist and leg prusiks
Everyone must bring their own:
- Minimum 2L water
- Sun protection
- Some snacks
- Swimmers and towel if you like
