Dreaming of Trad climbing?! Maybe even cracks !!(?)... then this is the trip for you.
Dyurrite (also known as Mt Arapiles) rests on the land of Wotjobaluk, Jaadwa, Jadawadjali, Wergaia and Jupagulk peoples, and since we will be recreating on stolen land, we must make sure we are respectful towards First Nations’ wishes on how the land is to be managed and cared for. This means NO CLIMBING at places that have been closed by Vic Parks and the Barengi Gadjin Land Council which represents all Traditional Owners of this Country. More info can be found at https://www.bglc.com.au/
This trip is focused primarily on the art of trad climbing, as sport climbing here is sparse and really f#^$% hard. Imagine a grand 10 hour road trip towards almost the farthest point of Victoria towards the border into South Australia, followed by 8 days of great climbing.
The key details:
- We will be away for 10 days (2 of these days will be for travel); ALSO I (Sienna) will be doing my Single Pitch Guiding course for 4 days (7th-10th April) and won’t be able to climb with anyone unless the days are shorter than expected. However, this will not be an issue as Karan Gill will be co-leading this trip with me, and there will be more than us two joining.
- Please indicate your skill level in trad climbing. We will have room for beginner climbers/sport climbers wanting to get into trad - but this is limited to how many experienced climbers sign up (hoping for a 2:1 ratio of experienced:new).
- The amount of people able to come along will also be dependent on how many cars we have.
- Costs: petrol, food
- Packing list:
- Tent, sleeping bag, sleeping mat
- Cookware system
- Food (can be bought there)
- Big hiking pack (>40L) to put everything in
- Head torch + spare batteries
- Shoes appropriate for approaching
- Sunglasses
- Sunscreen
- Hat
- Clothing for all condition (Cold, warm, wet etc.)
- Insect repellent
- Water bottles
- Climbing gear (some can be borrowed from gear store): 1 trad rack and 1 climbing rope between 2 people, Helmet, Harness, Climbing shoes, Belay device, chalk etc.
- Keep in mind the campsite is unpowered with no showers, there are toilets and a sink for washing dishes.
P.S. There is still room on my course if you would like to take the opportunity to be accredited with a Single Pitch trad guiding certificate - let me know in the sign up if you are interested.
