I'm heading to the snow to celebrate getting old, by skiing steep chutes to feel young. join me!
The plan:
To set out to the snow early on Saturday to beat the traffic, and set up a base camp on the spur overlooking blue lake.
From there, we may partake in a range of activities. building an igloo, or snow jump, and fortifying the tents against possible wind. And of course, tackling the massive chutes that blue lake has to offer. (if there is enough interest, we could even set up for some ice climbing)
We camp for 2 nights, and return to the cars around midday on Monday to drive home.
(For those of you who are busy on Monday, I encourage people to join for day trips or just the weekend if they are comfortable getting themselves there and back independently)
Who:
This trip requires considerable strength, fitness, and camping experience. It is a long way from help. Be prepared.
The terrain is suited for intermediate to advanced skiers and split boarders, and involves a long traverse to get in from Guthega (or CP if it's open). You may come with snowshoes if you are fit and determined. I don't recommend it.
If you ski but are new to the backcountry, please take some time to get used to the equipment. If you are new to snowsports, consider learning on a day trip first.
Packing:
- Large hiking pack
- your ski/board setup
- Food for 3 days. snacks. always overpack. you eat lots when it's cold.
- sleep system. Let me know if you wish for a spot in the party tent (sleeps 3-4)
- plastic bags for the poo tube. ziplock and freezer bag are not recommended.
- Cookware, cutlery, stove, gas (extra gas as melting snow uses lots)
