Postponed to 13 April, due to weather.
Build your outdoor skills in the canyons of Macquarie Pass.
Within a day trip of Canberra, Macquarie Rivulet has an excellent combination of canyoning problems and challenges, as well as a good level of safety and a relatively short walk from the car. It is not as deep or enclosed as the unique Blue Mountains canyons, but it is still a lovely natural environment abounding in creatures such as lyrebirds and water-dragons.
While this spot has a high ratio of fun - with natural water-slides, jumps and cascades - the point of this trip is to focus on your own development. We want to become an active member of ANUMC, and in future turn your ideas into enjoyable and safe trips. Experience in canyoning helps you lead all outdoor adventures - because you have to organise a group, plan the activity, and use your skills to overcome obstacles as you come to them.
If you post an expression of interest for this trip, please indicate your past outdoor experience - no canyoning expertise required - any ANUMC trips or past school or group activities will be relevant. The group won't be first come first served, but will be selected as a mix of up and coming leaders and new members who are keen to contribute this year and into the future.
Note: all planning is weather dependent. Mac Pass is near the coast, so is notably warmer than the Blue Mountains, and should be good in early April, as we enjoy the last rays of daylight saving sunshine. Also, to keep the day reasonable, and allow time to pause and practice canyoning skills, we will just do the lower half of the canyon.
