Hi folks
Given the amazing snow conditions I want to make the most of it by taking the day off work and heading out from Guthega. My goal is to head up to Guthega Trig, around to Mt Tate, and then ski down the south-east facing slopes where apparently there used to be a rope tow set up back in the day. The wind forecast is on the fresh side, so it may be chilly up top on our way to our goal, but once we drop in we should be on the lee side. The visibility should be good so at least we'll be able to see where we are going!
This trip is for people who have skied backcountry before, know how to handle themselves off-piste, are reasonably confident with making things work with bindings, skins etc, and know what gear they need to bring for a day of skiing outside the resort. You don't need to be an expert but I'll assume you know what you are doing - but of course feel free to ask if there's anything you're unsure about.
(If it's your first time in the backcountry you are most welcome on the other trip I will be running on Sunday. This will be at a more moderate pace and we may go from Dead Horse Gap so that we are not as exposed to the winds higher up.)
We should all keep an eye on how the backcountry conditions are evolving. Here is a great resource: https://reports.mountainsafetycollective.org/main-range
I won't be running a pretrip for this one but I'll be in touch by email or whatsapp with further info. If you need to hire gear it looks like the gear store is open Monday 6.45-7.15).
