The aim of this session is to give beginner and intermediate climbers and canyoners some instruction and practice in commonly used knots and basic rope management techniques.
As the time allows we will aim to cover off the following:
rope management for climbing (flaking rope into a tarp vs coiling ropes)
overhand (use as a stopper knot, tidying tails of other knots, joining two ropes for rappel)
figure 8 (use for harness tie-in, on a bight, and note to never use in parallel tie to join 2 ropes)
girth hitch (aka larks head knot or lanyard hitch - note to not use with dyneema)
basket hitch
clove hitch (two ways to tie - for connectors and for objects)
klemheist
This session will be run on the balcony overlooking the old climbing wall at ANU Sport. It will be run after Amelia's abseiling skills session.
There are other knots and techniques to cover off in future sessions, so stay tuned for those.
