The sea kayaks in particular take a battering from lake sailing, mainly by people who know no better. Soo, we're always having to mend them before going on a serious trip. (We're hoping to sail the length of Lake George on the Sunday.) We also have 2 new sails to instal on the single boats. How much we get done will depend on attendance and enthusiasm. Mending will involve checking and fixing rudders, cables, bungees, pumps, handles, switches, seats, sails and covers etc. This is a good opportunity to get to know the boats, which could serve you well if you go on an overnight ocean trip (or just paddle on the lake). Since it'll probably be hot, we can break up the day with swims in the dam or retreat to the air-conditioned (solar powered) house or shed for a game, or a climb, and/or a knots workshop. Because we're going on a trip the next day people are welcome to stay for dinner and/or camp at my place. The pretrip where we load the trailer will need to occur on the Thursday or Friday depending on people's availabilities!
Participation in repair work gives you preference on Sea kayaking trips in future.
