Archived trip from old website run by Taya Fabijanic
As I am writing this, its bucketing with rain in Suburban Canberra. Next Saturday imagine yourself in a wilderness environment about an hour away from ANU. Without rain (fingers-crossed). This walk is an easy 16km day walk in the Bimberi Wilderness with outstanding views of Namadgi and, along the distant horizon, Canberra itself. The proposal is to walk from our parked cars at the bottom of Mount Ginni and along the fire trail to Pryors Hut. Then we go cross-country and up the north end up Mount Gingera. We will then lightly ramble along roughly north to south on the top plateau of Mount Gingera before a steepish descent back to fire trail and loop back to our cars. Its a very pretty woodland and sub-alpine walk where the views on Mount Gingera are well worth it. Because it is Winter, make sure you bring your thermals and wet-weather gear.
Take Mount Franklin Road fire trail from Mount Ginni to Pryors Hut at Little Ginni Mountain. Climb up Mount Gingera from Pryors Hut and have lunch at the top of Mt Gingera. Walk South east along the Plateau and down west back to the Firetrail. Loop back and up to the parked cars along the fire trail.
