NOTE: This trip only go ahead if we get a car able to tow the kayak trailer (braked, <1200kg).
Hey ANUMCies, To make the most of summer and the end-of-exam period I'm proposing a beginner kayaking trip from Berowra Waters to Brookln down the Hawkesbury (just north of Sydney).
Broad Plan:
Day 0 - Drive Canberra to Berowra Waters Ferry crossing.
Day 1 - Paddle down Berowra Creek to beachside campsite at base of Mount Shuttle https://www.google.com.au/maps/place/33%C2%B031'55.0%22S+151%C2%B008'27.6%22E/@-33.5319305,151.1388233,980m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x0!8m2!3d-33.531935!4d151.141012
Day 2 - Paddle down the Hawkesbury to Brooklyn
Day 2 - Catch train, car shuffle or do Great North Walk back to Berowra to get car(s) and trailer.
Total paddle distance is 10-15km per day. The route will take in the spectacular views of Berowra Waters, the Hawkesbury River and Muogamarra Nature Reserve. Depending on the conditions and ability of the group, activities along the way could include:
- Fishing
- Visit historic Bar Island
- Super super fancy dinner at Peats Bite Restaurant http://www.peatsbite.com.au/ (just kidding)
- Visit HMAS Parramatta wreck (north of Milson Island)
- Circumnavigate Spectacle Island (protected indigenous Nature Reserve)
- Climb at Eagle Rock (~2km downstream from Brooklyn)
- Have beers at Brooklyn Pub
Participants will be expected to be fit enough to paddle the required distance and be able to perform a wet exit from a kayak. Everything we will need for the two days will have to be carried in the kayaks. If nominating for this trip please provide an indication of paddle experience/fitness and whether you can tow the trailer.
