To welcome the summer season and opportunities for bushwalking in the Australian Alps, take part in this easy/moderate overnight walk to an interesting little area of Northern Kosciuszko National Park, NSW.
Leaving Canberra early Saturday morning, we drive due South through the ACT and cross the border to Yaouk, making our way up to the trail head at the entry to Kosciuszko along the Lone Pine Fire Trail. The walk starts and finishes from this point.
We should make it to the summit of Mt Morgan, the highest point on the walk, for a late lunch and then its off trail down the Western side of the mountain to the campsite at the headwater of the Boogong Creek. Later in the evening we will attempt a moon rise viewing from the short rock scramble up to the top of Half Moon Peak from our tents.
Sunday morning we return via the same route back to the cars and if time on the return journey to Canberra, a stop at the legendary Adaminaby bakery. Return approx. 5pm
