This is a call for expressions of interest in a club-subsidised rope rescue course. The course will aim to cover self-rescue skills in a climbing context, and will pitched at a fairly advanced level. It will be run by the Blue Mountains Climbing School, and approximately based on their Rope Rescue 2 course (https://climbingschool.com.au/courses/self-rescue-level-2-3/), but tailored to our group. There will be material to cover before the course and I'll organise an indoor skills session beforehand (more info later). However, the course will be aimed at climbers who are self sufficient leaders outdoors, can abseil and prusik, and have some level of trad or multipitch experience.
UPDATE: The course is confirmed for the weekend of August 19-20. We will likely drive up to the Blue Mountains Friday night after work, and return to Canberra quite late Sunday night. You'll need to be available over the whole weekend. Please sign up if you are interested in attending! The cost will depend on numbers (and of the ratio of students to non-students), but will be around $180-250 for the course, plus petrol. The content to be covered will be finalised the first week of August, and will be tailored to teh group.
UPDATE 2 11/8/17: There are still up to two places available - please sign up or contact me if interested! There is a bit of room in necessary experience, but a minimum of being able to comfortably lead climb is still required.
When you sign up, please indicate your prior contribution to the club, and how your attending the course will benefit the club. Subsidised spots are limited, and preference will be given to those who have led climbing trips, or commit to doing so in the near future. Please also indicate your technical knowledge, and be specific where possible: i.e. 'I can top belay, prusik, and abseil past knots' is useful; 'I can trad climb' is not. Signing up does not guarantee a spot on the course, and your chances will be significantly lower if you don't provide the aforementioned information.
More details (content, homework, pre-trip training) to come.
