UPDATE: We are walking in to Blue Lake from Guthega.
We're hoping that there's some ice at Blue Lake and the photos online haven't been faked. If not, this will be a ski trip.
We'll be leaving Canberra at 5am on Saturday and returning Sunday evening. We'll drive to Perisher and ski into Blue Lake, camping just below.
No prior ice climbing experience is necessary, but you will need to have done some climbing. You need to have climbed outdoors before and have lead belayed. You must have snow camping experience. It is likely to be very cold and everyone is expected to be self-sufficient in this regard. Please list your experience when you sign up. We also need a second driver for additional sign ups.
There will be a pre-trip at the gear store on Thursday at 6pm. Jai will be leading this trip; I'm just herding the cats. You'll need to bring the gear listed on this page (http://anumc.org.au/activities/skiing) plus a helmet, harness, 2 slings, 2 locking biners, belay device, crampons, ice axes, prusik loops and probably other gear that I've forgotten. More info at the pre-trip.
Ski the Blue Lake walking track and set up camp at Carruthers Ck. Ice climb at Blue Lake. Maybe also do some skiing out to Carruthers, Sentinel and Watsons Crags, depending on snow cover.
