An overnight trip close to home in wonderful Namadgi National Park. This trip is beginner and photographer friendly. :)
Do you like taking photos while bushwalking? Do you usually rush to get a few snaps in and never get to that perfect shot? Has your camera been collecting dust and are your photo skills getting a bit rusty? Or do you simply feel like a wintery bushwalk and overnight camp? ....If you answered yes to any of these questions, this trip is for you!
Trip Overview: Walk a few short easy trails on Saturday (Yerrabi Track, 3.5km; Shanahans Mt Track, 3.4km + lookouts on Booboyan Rd), taking the time to take photos & take in the views. Set up camp in Rendezvous Creek Valey by 5pm, dinner, star gaze, and, if the sky is clear, take a few photos of the stars too! On Sunday, early-ish start, packing tents by 8.30am, and the day consist of walking along a management trail along Naas Valley, all the way to Horse Gully Hut (16km – 7hrs return). Aiming to be back in Canberra by 6.30pm at the latest.
The Naas Valley to Horse Gully Hut walk travels through a few vegetation types, including some beautiful frost hollows, wetland areas and spectacular stands of Eucalyptus stellulata (Black Sallee). The plains will be amazing especially in the morning, when the tussocks will be frosty! We will also visit Demandering Hut and Horse Gully Hut. We will return along the same trail – oh, but the light will be different
Difficulty: the trails on Saturday are easy and short. The Naas Valley to Horse Gully Hut walk follows a management trail which meanders through Naas Valley. This walk has only a few steep sections, so it is fairly easy, but it is a long walk so a little endurance is required (pack a few extra snacks and “she’ll be right!!”).
Please include your bushwalking and camping experience (or ‘beginnership’) in the notes section when signing up. Beginners are welcome!
Happy to drive a few people in your car for the trip? Please say so in the note when signing up.
The trip leader has walked these trails and camped at Mt Clear before.
