Join me for an adventure up in the heights of the Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve! Expect soaring views over the Tidbinbilla valley and Namadgi Nature Reserves, rock scrambling, and hopefully a chance to put your nav skills to good use :D
We will meet at ANU sport in the morning, and drive out to Tidbinbilla where we will leave our cars at the Mountain Creek Carpark. From here, we'll briefly follow the Lyrebird Track, and then commence the trek uphill to Snowy Corner. After Snowy Corner, we will head up to the top of Tidbinbilla Mountain (highest point of the range with absolutely incredible views of everything!) Then it's roughly 2km to Tidbinbilla Peak. Please note: up to this point, we will mostly be on very rough foot tracks/completely off track so please be prepared for bush bashing and rough walking.
After Tidbinbilla Peak, we will follow a more defined track to John's Peak, and following some rock scrambling will arrive to the Camelback Firetrail for the final ~5km back to the cars. Depending on time and energy levels, we can also head up to the top of the Camel's Hump for more spectacular views.
The total distance will be about 14km, but with the tough climb and rough terrain be prepared for this walk to take most of the day. I will also be monitoring the weather throughout the week as wet/snowy conditions may mean I have to call off the trip.
Please make sure to bring:
- water ~2L
- lunch & snacks
- raincoat
- decent shoes for hiking (boots with ankle support are preferable)
Upon registration, please:
- indicate your bushwalking level and experience - this walk will be tough so please consider your sign up carefully!
- indicate whether you have a car and would be willing to help drive
- indicate if you have the COVID safe app or not
