It's likely that you have never heard about Egan peaks nature reserve and the spectacular complex of peralkaline igneous rocks (Jingera Rocks) that it hosts! Every time I tell someone about this place, they look at me incredibly confused and i have to show them where it is on a map.
I'm keen to head out there to take some measurements of joints in the rock out on the main cliff face of Jingera rocks, and to check out the closeby mighty Burragate fault which has displaced over 20 kms of rock on one side vs the other.
Since the area is so beautiful and because there will be so much bushwalking involved, I thought that maybe some of you may want to join me!
Intended plan:
On saturday morning,, we'll get up early in the morning, drive to the small town of Wyndham, and leave our cars at the beginning of the causeway fire trail before ascending to the cliff face of Jingera rocks (Approx 8-10 km walk, almost all off track!). A little bit of rock scrambling will be required to traverse across the face of the rocks.
On Sunday, we'll explore the closeby mighty Burragate fault and take a look at some of the rocks that have been deformed by its movement! It'll be a relaxed day and I'll be stopping a lot to press my face against the rocks that we observe!! We will have to do a little bushbashing though to try and get to areas of the fault which are not close to the road. We'll drive back to canberra on sunday night.
If anyone hates faults or does not want to stare at rocks with me, you're welcome to leave early (but you must have a car or someone willing to drive back with you because I need to stay to study the rocks!!)
Please Bring:
-Camping gear (tent, sleeping mat, sleeping bag, stove, etc)
-day bushwalking pack
-a couple of sets of fresh clothes
-rain jacket and warm layers
-sun protection (hat and sunscreen)
-gaiters to protect yourself against snakes! I would also recommend wearing long pants and long sleeves!
-head torch
-personal first aid kit
-food for the trip
See the below link for Saturday's intended route, and to see the regions of the Burragate fault which I am interested in visiting on sunday:
