Update!
There will be a group of people going up on Friday as well (riding and climbing). come up early if it suits you better.
The campsite was only available for booking on Friday night. For Saturday night, we may need to find some unconventional sites, or camp elsewhere.
Mt Coree climbing and bikepacking
This trip is to bring the worlds of bikepacking and climbing together!
The destination is Coree campground, as it is close to the epic crags and grand exposure of the cliffs of Coree, and provides a challenging destination to ride to. After the climbers have finished sending routes, and the backpackers have all turned up to camp, we can crack a cold one around the campfire.
bikepacking
option 1: depart from Canberra, ride to Mt Coree via Cotter Dam, and take the dirt shortcut onto Pabral Rd. This is a big ride, at 47km with over 1000m of vert.
Option 2: take a car, or organise a carpool to begin the ride at the turnoff to Pabral Rd, skipping the boring tarmac and cars. This option is only 10km with about 500m of vert.
option 3: take the bike up on the car on Saturday, and get someone else to drive while you bomb the hills all the way back down.
option 4: take the enduro bike and full-face to blue range.
you may ride unsupported carrying all your own equipment, or organise to have a climber drive it up for you.
most bike types are suitable, but given the gravel component, I would recommend MTB or gravel. (Road bikes can be considered all-terrain if you carry enough spare tubes).
climbing
There are many options to climb, accessible from the summit of Coree. Most are Sport routes, but The Crag suggests there may be some trad options around too.

you will need your own gear, or hire it from the gear store.
this is not a beginner trip, and the grades and exposure can be very humbling. everybody is responsible for their own safety.
If you are new to Coree, check the crag for potential routes that match your ability. I'm sure there will be some opportunity to jump on top rope if it's all overwhelming.
Why not both?
If you are a fit cyclist and a gnarly climber all in one body, I challenge you to send a few routes after riding the whole way to the summit. extra points if you carry your kit with you.
let me know when signing up, which option is the most suitable for you, what your experience level is, and whether you can drive people or extra camping gear.
I will make a group chat to organise carpooling etc.
