Two-day workshop to learn some skills needed for safely leading sea kayaking trips on lake or sea. Day one (Saturday) will cover kayak transport, self and assisted rescues, use of pumps, bracing, and boat safety checks and repairs. Water skills will be taught on a farm dam. Day two (Sunday) will cover towing and use of sails and will take place on Lake Burley Griffin. There is the option to camp overnight at the farm on Saturday night, when we might learn some basic navigation, knots, camp skills, or play games.
Participants on this trip may have the opportunity to do follow-up training at a later coast trip.
You must be a confident kayaker to participate in this trip, preferably with some past trip leading experience. Lake experience is enough - you do not have to have paddled at sea.
We will meet at the boatshed 7.30 Saturday morning to load the kayaks onto the trailer and then drive to the farm.
