Are you a climber wanting to take your rope skills to the next level? Come to Katie and Ash's session at the ANU wall to learn and practice the valuable skill of prusiking!
Prusiking is way of ascending a rope, useful when:
- you've abseiled down too far (like, as a *random* example, 30 m below the start of Whale of a Time)
- you've taken a fall while climbing and have ended up in free space (where you can't reach the rock to resume climbing)
Prusik knots are also commonly used as a back up when abseiling, so knowing how to tie them is a great skill.
In this session, we'll cover:
- what prusiking is
- how to tie prusik knots
- how to use them to ascend
- practice ascending them in free space (while being belayed safely on a second rope)
- prusik ascent race anyone?
- depending on group size and preferences, we can also do some abseiling practice
For more information about prusiking, check out these links:

- How to prusik up a rope - go to ~5:45 of the video to get the basic technique
In your sign up, please indicate your climbing and prusiking experience as well as what you're hoping to get out of the session, to help us know what to focus on.
What to bring:
- usual climbing gear (harness and shoes can be borrowed as usual)
- spare biners if you have any
- prusik cords if you have any and want to practice on your own gear
