While this website does (mostly) function and looks a bit snazzier than the old one if I do say so myself, there's still a lot of work to be done. Many hands make light work, so I'm looking to teach more people how to help develop and maintain the website. I'll also not be around forever (probably) so it's really important that knowledge about the website is passed to new people in the club.
We'll have a party for everyone who's involved or wants to be involved in the website at Marie Rae on campus. Dinner will be provided
This will be an opportunity for new people to be learn how to make modifications to the website, and for more experienced people to get together and workshop.
Required web-dev experience: NONE
Thanks largely to Gabe, it's much easier to get a "development" copy of the website running on your laptop that you can fiddle around with without fear of breaking the website itself. Before coming, please send me your github username and I'll add you to the repository. There you'll find a big "getting started" document that will help you get your dev copy up and running
Modifying the website can broadly be done in three ways depending on your prior experience:
- Point and Click on the website itself to modify pages. Literally the same thing as when you make a trip. You can also help us restructure the menu layout which has become very confusing (no experience required!)
- Making tweaks to the theme / appearance (easy to learn, coding experience helpful)
- Modifying or adding functionality, eg trip registration or gear store (requires proficiency in Python)
