Welcome to a cruisy cross-country day trip out to the newly rebuilt Four Mile Hut, near Kiandra. Leaving from Kiandra, the trip is about 14 km return and relatively flat (approx 300m altitude gain for the day; 200m on the way there and 100m on the way back).
NB there is some rain forecast for Thursday night. If this melts too much snow, we may have to switch to another location.
This trip is best suited to participants who have some type of skiing experience, for example you are an intermediate downhill skier but want to try cross country. (If you're a complete beginner and want to come, send me an email instead of signing up -- if only beginners want to come I could switch to a beginner trip.)
I have set trip limits in line with club safety guidelines. If another experienced skier or hiker signs up who is capable of taking a co-lead role, I could increase the limit. Please let me know in the experience box if you're willing to be that person.
Regarding skis, the easiest option is to hire telemarks from the gear store. My preferred ski for this type of trip would however be NNN-BC, which are lighter, more comfortable and easier to get proper diagonal stride technique. If you'd like this type of ski, there are a limited number of shoe sizes available at the gear store, or we can stop at Rhythm in Cooma for you to hire ($60/day).
Pre-trip meeting cancelled - will make arrangements by phone/email
