Wombeyan Caves is an extensive series of beautiful limestone caves, situated in a 417 hectare reserve roughly 2 hours northeast of Canberra (https://www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/visit-a-park/parks/wombeyan-karst-conservation-reserve). The caves are meant to be family friendly so it should not be too challenging to do.
There are a total of 4 caves, some being self-guided, and some with proper guides. There is currently a 2-cave tour promotion of $33 with the family friendly Fig Tree cave and the guided Wollondilly Cave, which is the longest and most diverse cave at Wombeyan. The guided tour timeslot for Wollondilly is at 1pm.
The plan is to meet at ANU Sport at 745am on Sunday, 1 September and leave by 8am. A 1 hour drive takes us to Goulburn, where we will breakfast at Grit Cafe in Goulburn (roughly our halfway point), then drive up to the Wombeyan Caves. We will have time to explore the area before starting the first Wollondilly tour, or start with the Fig Tree tour before the Wollondilly tour.
After the cave tours we will return to Canberra. Important note: once you have signed up for this trip and have been accepted on the trip (wait for my email), go to the website and purchase the 2-cave combo pass and make your own booking individually for the 1pm timeslot (https://bookings.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/public/npws/?site=NPWS&categoryId=37).
